Biography


Dalip Chand was born in Korowiri, Labasa to Shreemati Paras Ram, a legendary singer in the 70's, and Paras Ram. He has four sisters including Premila Prasad who also contributes to the musical talent in the family. Growing up in Fiji, Dalip attended St. Mary's Elementary School and All Saints High School. The singing all began in Fiji when Dalip was the lead singer of Raaj Melodies in Bulileka, Labasa at the age of 15.

At the age of 17, Dalip left his homeland Fiji for Toronto, Canada. There, he attended Centennial College for two years, studying business administration. He started his first business and opened an auto body shop, then owned his own gas station and now owns a car dealership (showroom) in Toronto, Canada.

Dalip got married in 1986. His bride, named Sunita, is from Guyana, in the West Indies. Together, they have two daughters named Shalini and Kiran.

While running his own business, Dalip is also running the Labasa soccer team in Toronto. The team has been undefeated in three years!

Dalip has been singing in Toronto for years, performing in clubs such as Kabhie Kabhie and Mystic Lounge. He has formed his own band called the Dalip Chand Soundcrew. The band records their music in Dalip's very own personalized digital recording studio.

To further his singing, Dalip has also travelled to Trinidad, Guyana and Surinam to learn to play chutney music, which is the West Indian style of music.

In his spare time, Dalip has also taken up flying and is now a student pilot at the Oshawa airport, studying for his PPL.
